Avant Garde: Sometimes it's fun to get a little weird.
Nina is a gorgeous redhead model signed with Freedom Models Indie-Viduals board. She breaks the tradtional model mold with her experimental style and untamed personality. The mundane bores her to tears, so we set up a shoot with Ivan Brun to ‘get weird’
1st Look - I wanted her face to look milkshake pink. so I added pigment to her foundation. Then painted plenty of warm contour (to match her hair) to define her face and add some dimension to her pink face before adding silver birds randomly around her face.
2nd look - With a clean face, I added foundation in her actual skin color. blocked out her eyebrows and painted very thin white lines in their place. I opted for an asymmetrical black graphic eye and an overlined mouth.
3rd look - I just wanted to go trashy so i added way too much strawberry milkshake blush (an homage of sorts to the first looks) , obnoxiously sparkly blue eyeshadow a la Mimi from the Drew Carey show, and slightly villainous pink glitter brows. To top it off I wrote ‘SICK’ on her teeth in eyeliner since Nina runs the very popular de-pop shop, SickShit World
It’s fun to be creative and push boundaries. Not everyone is going to like it.
What most people don’t realize is that editorials and a lot of work we publish on instagram and our websites, are not what is necessarily paying our bills. Most days we are in studios, doing very clean and simple makeup and hair for e-commerce shoots and advertising. Pretty much clients expect same 2/3 looks over and over. Which is fine! I love doing pretty and natural skin and looks and I think it is what I am best know for locally. When I am very busy, it is easy to go months without flexing any creative muscles. Creativity can be anything from a pop of color to a graphic line to the often pretty wacky stuff stewing around in my brain. This time, I obviously had a lot of pent of pigment that I needed to release!!
